28.6 Opening: EXISTENTIAL HARDWARE
Furniture Experiments by Batten and Kamp and Friends
28.6.2025 (Sat) 1-7pm
Opening: EXISTENTIAL HARDWARE
After two months of living, making, and (probably) overthinking at Current Plans, artist-designer duo Batten & Kamp are ready to unveil their universe of functional sculptures. Existential Hardware blurs the lines between furniture, art, and the absurd—featuring new works and collaborations with friends Henry Chu, Henry D'Ath, Trance Films, Lousy, and Orange Terry.
Join us on 28th June and witness chairs that question their purpose, lamps that dream, and objects that might just outlive us all. Drinks, music, and existential musings provided.

Batten and Kamp is the collaborative practice of Alexandra Batten and Daniel Kamp, an Aotearoa-born duo creating conceptual furniture and sculpture. Their work explores the tension between nature, comfort, and progress.
Recognized by Design Anthology as leading emerging designers in Asia Pacific (2024), their signature Steel and Stone series (2020) is held in collections worldwide. Other notable works include Elsewhere (2021), Sex Tape (2023), and Echo (2025), a series of sculptural lights debuted in their solo show From a Distance at Carpenters Workshop Gallery.
Based between Hong Kong and Paris, the duo has produced solo shows with Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Art Central, Novalis, and Design Art Tokyo, and completed commissions for the Palace Museum and OMM Museum. Raised in Aotearoa and trained in architecture and design, they founded their studio in 2020 to explore speculative, emotionally resonant objects.
See you there!
